We now have the following channels:

#Descent on irc.gamesurge.net
#Descent on irc.enterthegame.com
#Descent3 on irc.enterthegame.com

Previously a clan for another game had #Descent on GameSurge, but they let it expire so now we have it. The topic directs people to go to #Descent3 to find opponents. So now people who go to #Descent on gamesurge will be able to find us.

EnterTheGame is the second-biggest gaming IRC network (next to GameSurge) The EnterTheGame channels are set up in a similar fashion.

There are gamers to be found on both networks, so having channels on both networks increases our visibility.

#Descent3 on GameSurge will probably remain the most active of the four, but those other 3 channels are nice to have because they might catch some newbies. =)

...who will either find nobody or very few people in there to get to the result that D3 is dead...

Well, that's how it was before the channels were ours. Now there's a topic telling them where to go and I'm in there (most of the time) =)

It's not perfect. But I think it's probably better to let them think Descent isn't very active than it is to let them think Descent is dead.

So these are (for now) strictly referral channels to gamesurge's #Descent3?

The GameSurge #Descent channel refers to the GameSurge #Descent3 channel.

The EnterTheGame #Descent channel refers to the EnterTheGame #Descent3 channel.

I'd feel kinda guilty about referring people to GameSurge from EnterTheGame. But they all have links to PlanetDescent and links to tutorials on how to play.

See, I tihnk this will kill D3 more than ever. Having to many chat eares for what, say, 30 people who chat in D3 is way to much. They will go to diff servers to chat but no one will be there.

It's not as if these channels didn't already exist. The only difference now is that we own them and they point somewhere useful. How can that be a bad thing?

I have decided on my home base. It's irc.gamesurge.net #Descent3.

Deciding on one home base for the community is just a matter of a bunch of people picking the same personal home base. A good amount of people are picking #Descent3 on GameSurge. So calling that our home base is as good as anything.

Wow, my account still works. (Send me a Welcome to the DBB thing and I will punch you, I got one of those years ago) It's funny -- the DescentBB is so huge and divvied up that I rarely post in it because I don't know where to look for any information.

I'm sick and tired of searching my damned mIRC or Trillian server list THEN entering the correct channel and joining 5 different freaking IRC networks at once JUST so i can be knowledgeable of everything going on...not to mention there is no shortcut to make mIRC automatically open connections to all these networks at once WHICH IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

3 More IRC Channels? Sure...make it even harder on me to keep track of the dying D3 scene, why don't you.
