Introducing myself
Hi Y'all,
I've enjoyed playing you all in the mines. Occasionally I even sneak up and get a kill!
Would like to make friends, and learn more about Descent stuff.
Be good,
Ned

Hi Ned, welcome to the gang. When i'm allowed to get a new comp' (marrital, not parental rules) you can get a few kills off me....'cause i'm crap. Check out Mobius's site for tips n stuff.
If your looking for an easy kill to boost your ego, check out the 1v1 levels, Testiculese is usually there. He plays with his left hand.....only....obviously!!!

Hi 2.0
Hi All,
That was a nice welcome. A little about me:
I loooove descent and worry about it's addictive properties. Today in a meeting I kept hearing afterburner. I am still amazed, how many years later, by the programming skill and creativity of it, and how the PC can track so many player calculations and not bog down (ie scorch spots, hallways, weapons spinning, etc.) I really think it is a masterpiece. Any Amens? Somehow roleplay or shooting someone's face off never appealed to me, and those seem to be what dominates the market.
I'd like to make friends (or penpals) to keep up with. For one thing, I have a lot of D3 questions that occur to me at all kinds of odd times.
Tres Amigos? Probably not me!
I'm 35ish, married, peace loving, have too many interests to mention, and get along well with people of many ages (young at heart).
Im going to go try to change my USB->ether adapter to an internal 10/100 card. Getting sick of being sure I am the one firing first only to see I'm dead.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Drop me a note and tell about you. My only thing is a like kind, honest people. Games are for the PC, not the head.
Be good,
Ned
(playing descent for years, multiplayer 2 weeks)
PS - Whoever Descentman is, Thank you for showing me some tricks, I need more!

Thanks for the offer "to train" this weekend, I probably can't compute until Sun eve, if at all.
Has anyone tried two PCs descent networked with a single crossover cable? That must ROCK.

Yah. That's called a 2-player lan party. It's even more fun when a bunch of players hook up to an ethernet switch.Ned wrote:Has anyone tried two PCs descent networked with a single crossover cable? That must ROCK.
Ned, if you're interested in actually meeting some of us, check out ChicagoLAN 2004

Ned, check out The tao of Descent: http://www.planetdescent.com/tao/
Great reading to get an insight to the thinking game that you must utilize in Descent.

Dcrazy, I live in Kentucky. I couldn't get on last nite because I had to go to a retirement party with my dad for someone he knows....BORING!!! I almost died.
Diti...those pictures you posted showed some girls. Are they D3 fighters? I would like to know who they are.
I wish there was a name for each one on the photo so I could see who I'm playing against.
How about some names left to right.

Hi,
I'm near Gaithersburg.
What kind of PCs do you all play descent on?
Im P3-866 Mhz/320RAM/64MB radeon and am wondering if part (heh heh) of why I suck is lag time. Do you think a faster motherboard architecture or bigger 3d card would help much? I can do ok, but I never feel like everything is completely smooth, instead of choppy.
Be good,
Ned

A more sneaky level
Hey,
Since I am new, I am doing a little better in fights that are not so wide open. I love the subway level. Has anyone thought of modding it or making a new level with more good sneaky hiding spots?
Is programing a level hard? I realize it's a cad thing sort of. I think I made one tiny lame level many years ago.
BTW, my favorite is guided missiles. If you are wondering where the h_ll they are coming from, it's ME!
Peace,
Ned

Re: Krom
That is how many frames per second I get in a common descent3 benchmark. Try it yourself, run D3 with the extra command line: -framecap 0 -nosound -timetest secret2.demNed wrote:Nice machine!

Then find and open fps.txt in your descent3 folder (default c:\games\descent3\).
Re: A more sneaky level
I don't know if you realize this Ned, but using guided missiles is basically cheating. If you fly them more than 2 or 3 rooms away they become invisible to anyone you might be chasing. The players don't see them or hear the homing lock or anything.Ned wrote:BTW, my favorite is guided missiles. If you are wondering where the h_ll they are coming from, it's ME!

LOL, I didn't know that. I use them all the time.Suncho wrote:I don't know if you realize this Ned, but using guided missiles is basically cheating. Cheating? Hardly. Evidence of the suxness of D3? Exactly.
