Earlier this year, Sony Corp. and another Japanese company, Toppan Printing, said they had developed a paper disc that can be destroyed with scissors for fool-proof data security.

Ugh. More waste of time with Corn. I am sick of corn subsidies, ethanol, etc.

But would they start to decompose, say if you spilled your Coke on one?

The article says they're coated with resin too strong for human teeth to break through, so I doubt a Coke would have much effect. The real question is this: when will AOHell start using them?

They also said it's what? .001 somethings thin? I'm sure I've got plenty of scratches deeper then that on my CDs.

I just want to clarify a couple of things.
1) this is not a cd
2) You never saw this before because it was just announced. Read the pressrelease date (ace you too)
3) this is "BlueRay", a different media all together.
/nitpick
There probably was some corn cd you saw. Im sure of that. It's seems I did too. But it wasn't this.

yeahyeah "it's not a cd because blah blah blah doesn't meet the guidelines blah blah, philips has a fit blah blah".
i'll still call them cds. i even call DVDs cds. as far as i know blueray cds are normal cds, just more densely packed so they can only be read with blue lasers instead of red, since blue has a much shorter wavelength and goes better with white shoes.
