Got to 7 and a 4.63 gail got me. 
.. first try. It seems I've seen this before. Fun game. reminds me of the old "scourched earth" game where 2 cannons shoot at each other in turns over randomly generated "terrain" with various wind speeds.

hey Duper they made a new scorched earth except in 3d... it free, just google it.
