A question for cyclers ...
Ya'll have any good online shopping places for bicycle accessories? Specifically, I need a good seat ... the one I have is killing me and I understand that there are new 'anatomically correct' seats available. I just wanna find a good deal on one ...
Thx in adv,

The standards are:
http://www.nashbar.com/index.cfm
http://www.performancebike.com/
http://www.coloradocyclist.com/
http://www.froogle.com
There are some other good sites based out of the UK but I forget what they are.
Don't forget ebay. I have found a lot of great stuff there. Though when it comes to saddles, you may want to test drive one. Keeping the "undercarriage" happy should be a top priority.
Good luck and happy hunting.
edit: here you go.

Oh man thanks! I went out and bought a used "Specialized" brand saddle from the local bike shop just to try (cost me $15). It's not in that great of shape but if its a cheap way to see if this is the problem I am having with "The Boyz". I'll try to post a photog of it tonight. That ebay seat looks great too ... I am watching that auction now.

hi ice, if you dont have luck with that one take a look at a italia selle turbomatic and its descendents. its been out for around 20yrs and is a good saddle for distance the rails are individully mounted so that it rotates with you. go for the brushed leather one, its softer for the less hardened rider.

I had a friend who'se wife decided it was baby time, so "they" decided to stop preventing. No more pills or condoms or whatever they used.
He decided to replace his desk chair at work with a stool capped with a bicycle seat. He also started to keep his coffee cup clenched in his lap.
They conceived about 9 months later. So he had a fairly good run of it.

I think a lot of the impotence fears are directed at profession racers who spend up to 8 hours a day in the saddle. To the casual or even the advanced sport rider I don't think there is anything to worry about provided you have a sadle that fits. I have thousands of mile logged, and my swimies are just fine.

Lawyer lips are the little "tangs" on the inside of the fork drop outs where the axle clamps onto the drops. They are intended to keep the wheel in place even if the quick release is not tight. They were undoubtedly invented after some numb nuts didn't tighten the quick release on his front wheel, the wheel fell off, and the guy went over the bars and lost all his teeth.

Dedman without going into too much detail ... uh ... it ain't no fear, it's a reality. I hurt ALL THE TIME and yes it is effecting me. I just hope I haven't done any permanent damage ...
Oh yeah, I could care less if anyone thinks I am a Dork ... I'm keeping the reflectors, my girls need for me to live.

Iceman,
you're cycling? With a race bike? Cool!
Me too (got a Cannondale R2000 Si with Dura Ace parts, and a lowly F500 hardtail for bad weather).
I recommend a seat from SQ Labs. They're built particularly for ppl having problems with regular seats. Once my current seat is worn down (it's close), I'll get one of those.

Hey...I use a Selie Sport saddle on my Haro 28sp. but to be honest one of the best ways to cycle for me is 'off seat'. I get a better work out that way and seem to have more control...for one thing its a faster transition to stand up on my pedals and coast with no hands(to look real fast when that pretty girl goes by ). Another thing that may help you as well is wearing underwear that hold your nutz up rather than something loose that let them jangle about, banging together and just generally being abused....there your bestest friends, be nice to 'em

Due to my role as single father ... I average 100 miles one week and 0 miles the next ... then repeat the cycle (in general) so ... that is a lot of riding.
I do have several pairs of cycling pants and they help somewhat.
Also, I use UnderGear briefs ... link

Iceman,
if you're using cycling trousers with a cushion inside, you must not use underwear, or you will negate the friction reducing effect of the cushion.
You also need to find a seat that is wide enough for your behind. It doesn't make any sense to use the most narrow, lightest carbon race seat if you're a rather strong guy.
If I ride, I usually get pain after about 1.5h. It can go so far that my sexual organ feels numb after riding for a while. I can take the pain for another 2.5h or so, but I do need a different seat.
The SQ Labs race seats are especially built to reduce pressure on the lower part of the genitals and the p*nis root. Take a loot at them.

Ok ... for the sake of anyone else around here with this problem ... I will come out of the closet on this ... sigh! .... I am going out on a limb here for the sake of all of you so please no jokes or teasing about this. Stay on topic and be objective ...suicide eddie wrote:when did this problem start. have you changed your bike setup/position? and if you dont mind saying, what part is actually having the probs?
Background
I have not been sexually active for a while until recently. I went through a divorce a while back and for the last year I have been enjoying just being single. I did have one girlfriend but that relationship ended I believe in January 05. Other than her, I have dated a lot but rarely more than one date per woman.
I really enjoyed not being involved and for the most part of this year I have concentrated on positioning myself for a long haul of being single. I have focused on things I want to do such as ice and inline skating, gourmet cooking, cycling, weight lifting, and running. The cycling has taken a strong hold on me and now I am a cycling nut. I absolutely love going out on a 2 to 3 hour ride with my MP3 player banging out Cold Play, Linkin Park, Pink Floyd, and other great band music.
The Problem
I first noticed a problem back in the spring. There is a group of blood vessels and nerves (cough, cough) in 'that area' that the seat contacts. After one particularly rough ride I felt sore there. As time progressed, the pain got a little more intense. Now I feel it all of the time. At the time, I had no clue about any ED problems that this could cause simply because I was not sexually active and ... well ... masturbation is just not something I look forward to. However, without going into detail a lot, I am now involved in a comitted relationship with a woman and the problem has surfaced. The problem manifests itself in an inability to "get it up" all the way. As you can imagine, this causes several problems with having a satisfying sexual encounter. First of all, when you are really going at it hard, the damned thing slips out when you least expect it. Second of all, without a full erection, it can be difficult to generate enough friction agains HER to stimulate her appropriately. Third of all, it is difficult if not impossible to get to the point of ejaculation because of lack of friction and because of FRUSTRATION.
Solutions?
I have tried moving my seat forward and I have consulted an expert in adjusting the height and pitch. I will be riding this afternoon with the new seat/configuration and we'll see if that helps pretty quickly (based on my pain level). I am supposed to be going to see a urologist to see if there has been any permanent damage but that may not happen for weeks. I understand that there are surgeries to correct any blood vessel and/or nerve damage due to this problem. In the mean time, I have a prescription for Viagra and OMG it is a wonderful medicine

Well I went on a 20 miler and had to stop because it started raining. Anyhow, so far the split saddle feels much better. I feel most of the pressure on the rear of my pelvis where it should be and very little pressure in the problem area. I dropped the underwear per Diedel's suggestion ... don't know if that had any effect or not ... I need a longer ride to check that out.
my ass hurts from riding so this topic prompted me to do a quick google search, and i think i'm having the same problem!

i'll be looking into these seats too ice.
just some stuff i picked up while reading:
- the area is called the "Perineum"
- piercers call this area the "Guiche" (if you've seen the jackass movie, you'll remember this )
and this seems like the ultimate

the area between the anus and the scrotum... it's just not ment to be hammered with a bikeseat (*ow ow*).The area in question is the perineum, between the external genitals and the anus. "When you sit on a chair you never put weight on the perineum," Dr. Schrader said. "But when you sit on a bike, you increase pressure on the perineum" sevenfold.

ok heres a few suggesions, try any or all of these.
bring the saddle down a small bit 5mm should do. it,ll place more body weight on your supporting legs more of a mtb or track positon.
also try move the shoe cleat further forward 3-5mm it,ll use the natual leverage of you legs a bit more lifting your body weight of the saddle a bit more.
lift and/or shorten the handlebar stem, it,ll rotate your body and hips up/backward putting the load more on the back of the hipbone.
also check that your shoes are the correct fit and rigid enought so all the energy is going into the pedal instead of the heal stopping the leg/hips over extending.
the most common probs i used to get when riding seriously was mainly to the mileage i had to do weekly (250-400)and that was mosty friction damage skin protecting water based cream during and a strong
antiseptic cream for after worked wonders for that. but pressure probs for me were mostly caused when half wheeling in groups rather than when driving the pace up. i,av also that i change of gearing for me, up to 53/46-12-23 at the moment has also helped on the tt bike. again i think its due to more leverage being applied.
any way i hope these tips may help.

good advice eddie, my bike is a little undersized (same bike i used to ride to highschool) so the seat is pretty high up. i can see how lowering the seat or raising the handbars could help. but i can't, the handlebars are as high as they go, and if i lower the seat it feels like i'm riding an undersized bike (funny that eh).
Ice,
with your problem I'd see a doctor immediately.
Btw, the SQ Labs saddle follow a similar principle as the hornless saddles linked to above: The rearward seat area is elevated over the horn so the ... umm, what was it ... the perineum doesn't get squeezed in between the body and the horn. They just look less unusual.

I see six SQ labs saddles and none of them appear to be what you are talking about (see http://www.sqlabusa.com/seats.php). All six appear to not have a deep recessed area along the centerline of the saddle and none of them appear to have a larger cutout area in the rear. Am I missing something here?
BTW: It's the morning after a short 20 miler and my perineum area doesn't ache like it normally does the day after ... I still feel some of the residual pain (that pain that pretty much doesn't go away) but it's not intense.

611 or super six for race bikes. You can clearly see that the seating area is pretty much elevated over the horn, other than with the usual saddles.
If you'd take the hornless seat and ppl asked you why you did so, you don't need to tell them all details, do you? Just tell them you had severe pain when riding with a normal saddle which got relieved with the new one.
