Heed these words

Post by Vertigo 99 »

Went over to a party last night, down the hall. There wasn't any beer or wine there, my usual poisons of choice, so I drank what they did have; a potent as hell holiday punch.

I can tell you that after god knows how many glasses of the ★■◆● (which was at least 50% vodka) that there is no wisdom in mixed drinks.

Stick with beer and wine. The end.

No you Foo. There is no wisdom in DRINKS MIXED BY OTHER PEOPLE. Spirits are a fine way to inebriate oneself, but if you insist on mixing your own, you are not at the whim of idiots who think a 50% punch is "funny".

The main problem is not being able to taste the alcohol in a potent drink. Mixed drinks are by definition, it seems to me, a way to mask the alcohol.

Mixed drinks are for women and children. If the spirit can not stand on it's own two legs, one shouldn't be drinking it.

I still remember going into The Whisky Club in Edinburgh. We were poured 15 year old Laphroigs. I called a waiter over and asked for some ice.

He looked at me up and down, and said with a really thick scots accent, and in a most controlled voice:

"I can tell yee're a New Zealander, so Ay'll get ye some water, but yer nae gettin' any ice laddy!"

Putting ice in a single malt is a crime.

Since joining the Whisky Club in my home town, I have come to appreciate this fact.

If you are spending huge sums of money on whisky, then you might as well just buy some crap, instead, to put it with your ice.

Jebus, putting ice in a single malt is like asking to have your Cabernet Merlot chilled before serving: LUNACY!

Honestly I dont give a damn because scotch as well as other alcohols are still very strong for me, so putting ice in scotch dillutes it a bit and allows me to enjoy it more.

It also makes it very cold, which masks some of the subtle qualities that makes a good scotch good. I'm with Mobi on this one. If you're going to drink a well crafted liquor, learn to appreciate it for what it is. If you're gonna ice it down or put a mixer in it, buy the cheaper stuff. You wont taste the difference.

Funny you should bring that up Bubba. Just about every OTC I've seen which contains acetowhateverthehell says right on the package, "Do Not Take if you consume 2 or more alcoholic beverages per day"

I thought everyone read labels :o guess not

the binger screwdriver (named for a guy we call binger who is the biggest alcaholic i know):

(i discovered this after getting hammer at binger;s place with a few buddies, he asked if i wanted another drink, and i said yeah.. but go easy on it for me)

1 20 oz. Glass Filled 7/8's of the way with vodka

2 tsp. of frozen o.j. concentrate

1 splash of water

it tastes like a regular screwdriver (esp. if you are already wasted) and will likely kill you if your buddies don't laugh at you while you drink it so that you stop and say, "what?" and they explain and you freak out on binger......... what a night.

this also works simialarly with vodka and kool-aid mix... use a lots of kool-aid mix (pre-sugared) and vodka... skip the water. DAYUM!!!

my friends and i like to refer to ourselves as "efficient drinkers". (u may have another name...)

Quick way to get a nosebleed though.

I definitely support knowing what is in your drinks before you drink them. A friend thought it would be funny to order a round or "prarie fires" and refuse to tell me what was in it. Tabasco sauce does not agree with me, especially in shotglass incriments.

ugh... prairie fire =

i (and i cannot stress this enough) HATE tequila. (i hate yag too, ugh). im not a fan of 'hot' and 'spicy', (i.e. i like to taste things).

i really do not like most 'modern' drink mixes either. who else here agrees that the liquid viagra tastes like chugging nyquil? (i don't like red bull much either...) gimme a classic mixed drink. :)

A quick Google says that liquid viagra is a stronger version of the Jagerbomb, which I love. Might have to try it sometime.

I'm not a huge fan of beer or straight hard liquor, so mixed drinks are my poison of choice. That Koolaid and vodka sounds really good... /me has the sudden urge to go to the liquor store

Like I said, I dont care how im supposed to drink it, I still enjoy it. I've been the legal drinking age of 11 months and during that time the most number of times I had an opportunity to drink I could only count on two hands. Around here its served with ice, my dad drinks it with ice, I drink it with ice, and I have no intentions to be another arrogant and snobby alcohol connoisseur. ;)
