I didn't say it was a good idea, however, it would do what he wanted to do since it seemed like he was not able to get the port forwarding to work. It wasn't terribly clear from the post if he had tried to forward ports or not. I assumed he had.

Just get an old piece of crap 486 box and throw Linux on it and run fetchmail. As far as sending mail, let the SMTP server of your ISP do that. Some ISP's will reject mail that was not sent from your own ISP's SMTP mail server.

This is what I'm planning to do at my house.
