Well, first you need to have VB6. I think you can get it fairly cheaply on ebay, after all, .net has been out quite a while. If you want to learn VB6, that's fine, but trust me, I've been doing things in VB for a long time and have been having trouble with this. I doubt this is a task for a newbie ...

D2X Launcher -- Need Help!!
Unfortunately, college is starting for me and I've barely had time to even think about descent lately. I haven't even been remotely in the mood for programming, either. If possible, I'd like to pass what I DO have done on the D2X launcher off to somebody else to finish. It works for the most part ...

Will do 8) Just realized a minor problem... you can type in the combo box where the profile names are, and it seriously messes with the profiles.ini file... I'll have to bugfix it this afternoon before I send it to ya. Apparently there are still a few minor glitches that I have yet to fix. Ah, well ...

Actually, The way I have it designed, it always writes the settings before launching to .\\d2x.ini -- where '.' of course is the launcher's exe folder. This way, you can keep the launcher in the root of the d2x-xl folder and have the settings made default, OR you can keep the launcher in its own ...

Ooooooh guuuyyyys...... I'M BACK!! .... And the D2X launcher is certifiably functional on my machine. It's compiled and ready for beta testers. (Only 9X/NT/2K/XP supported at the moment, as it was made in VB6. Chances are that it will run under WINE on linux, though, and I have absolutely no clue ...

Just to let everyone know, my little project is not dead, and no, I have not fallen off the face of the planet :P I've had several college/scholarship essays come up and I'm rapidly approaching finals, so everything else (especially gaming and programming) has been put on hold. Hopefully I'll be ...

Okay, I'm working on the VB6 interface. When its done, I'll get the working copy posted and later I might get around to porting it to C++, which I am definitely going to learn. Agreed. I already know VB and the general principles of OOP, polymorphism and encapsulation and so forth -- All this I learned well after I learned VB6. .NET uses it heavily. I LOVE the new .NET language, syntax, and IDE tools, but I despise the way it handles certain things. * I can no longer do ...

Pumo is 100% correct, Any dos game can be installed on a WXP system -- this is because DOS programs store their settings usually in config files or ini files in the main program folder. Okay, I give up. I have this thing SO CLOSE to working it is NOT EVEN funny. But It has hacked me off enough and I have wasted enough time on it that I am ready to quit with it. Whenever I check or uncheck \"Use Smoke\" or one of the other boxes that causes its sub-options to appear or disappear, the ENTIRE Render options menu has the tendency to revert everything else to the state it was in when the menu was opened. Double check that you spelled the switch right in the ini, and that you have listed a valid path to the textures folder -- if it has any spaces you probably need quotes around the path... ex) \"D:\\D2X-XL\\Textures\\Novacron's Sample Pack\" That was part of my problem, anyway. I fixed a couple typos ...
