Re: Epic Games kills off Unreal
I did actually like UT3, but I'm not about to pretend it was the most influential or greatest achievement in any way. Most people point to UT99 for that, although my favorite in the series is U1 by quite some distance. I still have copies of all of the games, but yeah, removing them from sale is a ...

Re: Descent II Revival
Those haven't been running for many years. Usually the best place to find D2 games these days is through Discord - from what I've seen the Rangers play that game more than anyone else does, though there are some broader community games elsewhere from time to time.

To build a level, that would be Anthology without a doubt - looking at the timestamps of the various work-in-progress files, it seems to have taken a little over two years.

For D1/D2, I would recommend Discord. You can occasionally get lucky and spot games on one of the trackers, but if you want to arrange games when they're not already running, it's probably the best way to find someone. This server is your best bet (there are also a few D3 players there!): https ...

Umm... so there is already a fairly well-known D2 campaign that uses the filename entropy.hog: http://www.enspiar.com/dmdb/viewMission.php?id=212
Wondering if there's some tweak that could be made to the filename of this one to avoid a collision...

Just to clarify, are you talking about something like this?
https://www.kixor.net/games/descent_levels/
That one is only for D1 and doesn't include in-built levels... I'm not aware of a comparable tool for D2 but it wouldn't be much more difficult to build one.

Yeah, he's on my OTL team. Also did speedruns at GDQ for D1 and Overload, although he's probably better-known by more people for running Crypt of the Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule. He wasn't really active in the Descent community until well after the DBB's heyday though.

I think I would have to nominate most of Levels of the World. There's a lot of material there that just isn't good, isn't well-designed, and isn't really fun. It does hold some historical interest since there are a few names that are recognizable due to their later work, and it also shows what early ...

The block orientation depends on a) the current face/vertex at the time you copy the block (it uses this as a reference for the relative orientation), and b) the current face/vertex at the time you paste the block. Figuring out the rules can be somewhat unintuitive; but if you look at the selected ...

Yeah, you can do that in DLE too, just need to change the filters. https://i.imgur.com/SIRGc2j.png It looks like I managed to break the animated frame list in 1.12.32 (or maybe earlier) for the robot textures, though. It's splitting them up into different entries. Probably still possible to edit ...

If mouse is slower than keyboard, something's broken; it should not be. The maximum turning speed is supposed to be the same for all input methods.
That said, I've seen mouse being slow in DOSBox as well. I haven't tinkered enough to figure out whether it's fixable.

Yeah, I haven't heard of it. Re: Destroyed robots counter
Countdown counters can tell you that secret areas exist, as they would in D1 level 1 because there are robots behind optional secret doors. It's a minor advantage but it is an advantage, and you don't need to pick up a full map to get it.

I greatly prefer this "number of kills" implementation to the "robots remaining" one though. The former doesn't give you any information you shouldn't have, and is still useful for speedruns. The latter is conceptually similar to the full map cheat code.

Mind answering my question about the texturing tricks, or would you rather keep quiet about that? :p If you mean the L28 stunt, you can blame me for that. Co-op starts are just objects, you don't strictly need cube changes for them (D1/D2 built-in campaigns didn't, maybe Vertigo?) - unless there's just no space in some of the levels.

Yeah if you liked Overload, and are in touch with anyone else you know liked Descent, drop 'em a line. Ultimately we all benefit because the better Overload does, the better the chances Revival can keep improving it.
