I had those problems on XP, but the Linux version runs fine. If you don't feel like buying a new graphics card, you can always install Ubuntu and play that way.

I just got that working the other day. It took all of 15 minutes, though that was migrating an installation from Windows. Do you have Stickman's guide?

EDIT: minor setback, my only means of playing D2 on this computer: D2-XL is no longer functioning for me in the latest beta Diedel put out. So can anyone point to me in the direction of Rebirth so I can utilize that to finish up working on the set? Right here... http://www.dxx-rebirth.de/?Downloads ...

Not bad, but the filesizes definitely need to be smaller. Besides physically shrinking them, you can get more JPEG compression out of those before they start looking overcompressed.

Besides that, they know that the only people who are really interested in the ODF are the same people who would drool and run to stores on day 1 if they released another commercial Descent.

I've converted my second level into a fire-themed one. That turned out much better than the way it was going before. Texturing is blazing along now, so it should be done this weekend.

I've always loved D1 levels 7 and 26. There's also Hostage Hell from IronBlade and Badlands from IronStar - those two are Lars/Grant classics.

It's been so long since I've played EAF2 or Lost Levels that I can't remember the levels well, but both of those had some great ones.

Rename your descent2.ham file something else. Then rename DFW's HAM to \"descent2.ham\" and stick it in D2's data folder.

Don't forget to copy her .sng file into the D2 folder too to hear the full soundtrack.

It's not possible for D2X-XL because of the cube structure. You're correct on that; the engine depends on cubes.

Do you have Descent 3? D3 levels can be created from a 3DS model thanks to the different engine D3 uses.

Don't bother fooling with the sound settings; there's an easier way if you're running Windows. Go to http://www.descent2.com/patches/d2/ and download the Windows Version. If it's a normal audio CD the way the original Descent II is, I recommend AudioGrabber to get the tracks off the CD. You'll need an MP3 encoder to go along with it - just take the LAME dll on the AudioGrabber download page.
