Old-timer dropping in to say \"Hi\" :)

I was feeling a little nostalgic and wanted to drop by to see what's been going on. Glad to still see so many familiar pilots! I haven't be strapped into the pilot's seat in years. Are there still servers running? I see the DXX project seems to have reached a stable phase...that's really cool. TTYL ...

Cow attends Rice University. He's told us BoTS that he's ok and he's in an area that was not required to evacuate so he was going to ride it out. More to follow.

I don't have personal experience with Magellan gear but my Garmin hasn't let me down. It's not a mapping version (this was before those came out) so I have a serial cable that connects to my laptop running MapPoint 2002. From the spec sheets, the Garmin has a 2MB more usable memory for maps, a few ...

Let me know how you make out . . . I use my S105 to dial-up all the time when I'm away from home or the office.

Garmin
Magellan
Lowrance

I have a Garmin GPS II+ 12-channel handheld. Paid about $260 a few years ago and am very happy with it for hiking and navigation.

I have the Thrustmaster "NASCAR" FF wheel. I like it because it has both paddle and stick shifters. The pedals are a little light so I find myself holding the base down with my left foot. Force feedback is good and strong when i dial it up. The only downside is there is no clutch pedal...just brake ...

I don't hate it as long as it's encoded at a high enough bitrate for me (1.5Mb DSL). Any comb-filter/warbly sound with wicked blocky compression artifacts makes me instantly stop watching. That said, I rarely stream if I can d/l and watch later. Options are nice but I'm finding more and more that I ...
