did the NV1 use the S3 compression back then? i know the Monster card was coming onto the scene then too. Lots of different takes on acceleration back then; long before bumpmapping existed. S3 compression? Not sure what you mean here. You mean the priopritary technology that S3 made that was ...

While it was one of the first 3D accelerators on the marked in 1995 (before 3DFX) it was a failure. Performance wasn't mindblowing (in Descent it is dreadful as you can see in the video) and it only supported 6 games, 3 of them from SEGA.

Nope, I'm not PyroTech. There is a textbox in the video that says MIDI is captured from the Nvidia NV1 (it could do 3D acceleration, sound, MIDI and had connection for Sega Saturn controllers). It sounds different, but it does a good job on the Descent tracks. I'll be adding MP3 files of the first ...

Descent Destination Saturn on Nvidia NV1 3D accelerated card

I made a video about this pretty unknown Windows 95 port of Descent that runs on the Nvidia NV1 card (Nvidias first 3D accelerated card from 1995).

Thought it might be interesting for you guys.
