Re: Best place to buy gaming laptops?

Newegg has always been my place to go for this kind of stuff, but I've never seen them offer Intel CPU/AMD graphics together...does that combination even exist?

Re: Descent 3 Linux Files

Oh hey, sweet. I was pondering whether I'd have to go digging for my D3 Linux copy (which is who knows where these days), but this means I don't have to. A couple things on my experience, I had some issues with starting up the game in fullscreen, which I could only solve by completely killing X with ...

Occasionally birds like to nest in the chimney here. These days the chimney is usually capped though, so they can't. One time when the power went out, my brother decided he was cold and tried to light a fire...forgetting the chimney was capped. I think one can guess what happened from there. (That ...

Blatant copying can possibly destroy any modified files on the board. And I'm pretty sure there are a handful of mods installed, so the code changes need to be applied manually.

Of course, if EasyMOD is installed, that's a different story, as it'll do the upgrade for you :P.

This is one reason why I dislike the MMOs that you have to buy in order to create an account. The two that I play are available to be bought, but it's not required, and they can both be downloaded from the Internet legally.

For reference: EvE Online and Puzzle Pirates

You need an incredibly fast processor to get a decent framerate. I have issues keeping Tyrian 2000 doing well at high detail levels, and I'm running on a 1.6GHz system. And Tyrian 2000 is a 2D game.

It shows modes that the NIC is capable of, but it can't figure out if the device on the other side has those capabilities or not. I've got experience on this one, set a NIC to 100Mbit when it was only connected to a 10Mbit hub ;). The disconnected icon came up real quick :P.

If you set it to a speed it can't use (ie, 100Mbps on a 10Mbit hub/switch), the device won't connect at all. Best leave it at Auto, it will pick the highest capable speed on its own.

While I personally liked D3's singleplayer, it was really slow in getting started. The first mission (which was all you had in Demo2) was REALLY boring.

But that was just one problem, and is all I have to say for now :P.

Perhaps there's a DMA or IRQ conflict in the system? Check to make sure your sound card is the only thing using the DMA and IRQ it's been assigned. Newer systems don't have issues with this, but older systems do.

The PC can do split screen, but nobody ever does anymore. Some older DOS games had the ability to do split-screen.

Also add to the fact that supporting consoles is far cheaper, as there's usually only one official configuration. With PCs, you have to deal with an extreme number of different configurations.
