Well, this could be interesting.

This kind of relates to some of the comments in the 'cultures clashing' thread. Maybe there is more democracy in Islam that I had thought.

I'd have liked to hear this 3 and a half years ago... but I suppose other world events (like the fall of the Taliban) had to take place before they could have the confidence to put out such a fatwa without expecting immediate death.

I'll be impressed when I hear the same fatwa issued from the imams in Mecca or Medina.
