Remember the Painter

Post by woodchip »

The union scum painter that tore the sign out of the little girls hand? Well it seems the unions still can't get it right...until their actions are brought to the light of day:

"After telling Marine reservists who drive foreign vehicles or display pro-President Bush bumper stickers they no longer could use a parking lot at the United Auto Workers headquarters, union officials have changed their minds."

How about we stick to the discussion at hand:

The union was f***ing stupid to try to tell the Marines that, yeah, you can use our parking lot but not if you drive an import or have a Bush bumper sticker.

Regardless of whether or not unions were a good idea when they first formed (they were) and regardless of whether or not unions should still be around (they shouldn't, in most industries)... the Union did something really stupid here.

I once had a call from Joe Gambino, head of the millworkers union, wanting to unionise my shop. He wanted to set up a meeting to talk to me. I called the FBI and was going to be wired for the meeting. For some reason Joe never called back and my little shop is still union free. Just thought I'd throw this story in to the thread.

Why would you not want the protection of a mob? That is the dumbest thing you could ever have done Woodchip, you could have made triple your money with the "stuff" in back. Oh right, your morals and values.

I belonged to a union once when I worked for a supermarket in the few months I was there, and somehow being a part of it made me feel very "red" and also made me want to speak Russian...

I remember working for a grocery store while in college where the workers were considering unionizing. I was all for it because I would end up making lots more bucks without having to do any more work.
OOps ... off Topic.

Yeah, tha UAW was stoopid to do something so stoopid.

You are partially correct considering I was 16 at that time. But I didnt like that I had to pay a union fee and that I had to belong to the union and had no other choice if I wanted to work there. To me I felt I could spend that union fee for myself. It felt like Communism to me, and in many ways the bad unions work like Communism. I then found better opportunities, coincidentally that didnt involve unions.

I understand and support unions that ensure companies maintain employee safety. I do not support unions that allow employees to milk every cent out of a company to the brink of bankruptcy while they sit around and do minimal work (its no wonder why some companies would rather move to India). In a way these unions goes against capitalism because if a company is bad, they should go under in favor of a company that puts out a better product or has better employee care. Otherwise these unions prolong trouble companies that should have dissapeared.
