I have the next big technological innovation

Post by snoopy »

I bet the next big thing to happen in technology is going to be this: light nuclear power- I bet people will find a way to fire electrons across a gap in such a way that an area will be completely shielded from matter passing through- thus stopping radiation, as well as acting as a ballistic "shield"... If people manage to do that, space travel will suddenly have lots more potential, as well as warfare greatly changing.

Do you really think people will see the next technological revolution coming? :P

Not positive about what exactly you mean snoop, but you hit on some of the things they are talking about using for the next generation of computing, ie: the quantum computer. Your post is similiar to the description of the josephson effect, or a josephson junction. As far as electrons tunneling across a gap, with a barrier in between.

As far as use for space travel or ballistic shielding, maybe you could be a little more descriptive?
Not sure what you mean by "light nuclear power", and they currently use lead or "heavy water" to sheild from radiation.

If your talking about using light, as in the photon kind, that is currently being investigated as a form of propulsion to space, aka laser propulsion.

Maybe some of these touched on what you meant , or I missed the point completly, LOL

there is work being done into plasma sheilding, since it can be so easily controlled and shaped with magnetic fields.

for instance here http://www.spacedaily.com/news/future-00o.html is an early article where they talk about using it for aircraft
but electro-shielding. it's been a while since i've heard of that, but i do recall seeing a picture of some early work in action. a faint blue glow, probably ions. it exerts force on material objects, and has some slight radiation sheilding properties (i'm not entirely sure, it was years ago). sorry i'm having trouble finding info on it.
