Hogzilla

Post by woodchip »

Possibly the largest feral hog taken so far. Weighs over a 1000 lbs. I wonder if something like this was scrounging around my barn last fall.

looking at the pic at I see a one thing kinda wierd.

look at how high up the hog is compared to the Man.

I think if the Boar was lowered to where his snout touched the ground at same level as the guys feet, the hog would actually look to be only 7 feet maybe 8 max.

At 8 feet long it is possible that he did top the 1000 pound mark, but he had to be eating REAL well.

I had a duroc boar that topped the scale at 1,270 pounds. He was 8'7" from snout to base of his tail.He was eating premium commercial hog feed that was balanced to promote wellness and muscle development. Something I doubt the Hogzilla could replicate by foraging.

I don't dispute the fact that it is indeed a big hog.
I can tell you I have a LIVE one every bit as big as him right now at the ranch and we estimate him at 800 pounds tops.

I can take a pic with my shitty 20 dollar vivitar digi cam if y'all want but I won't be trying to hang him from a backhoe (he gets a little irritated when I try to do that).

Should be lots of sausage for the friends and family tho. Theres no way in hades that I would eat that gamey tough carcass any other way.

but you can see from the focus (hog focused, man not) that the hog is significantly INFRONT of the man. at least a few feet.

From the snopes article:

"The mystery about Hogzilla's true size may end sometime early in 2005, because Holyoak has given a group of forensic scientists and a National Geographic Channel television crew permission to unearth the animal's remains. The scientists and film crew journeyed to Alapaha in November 2004, located the Hogzilla burial site, studied the remains, and reburied them. What they found will be disclosed in an episode of National Geographic Explorer to be televised in early 2005,"

Does anyone have a link to that story about the giant alligator that was caught (or killed, can't remember)?

It was massive, and the picture I remember a whole group of guys were standing around it. I think I remember the story was they found it hanging out int he shade of a huge cement pipe on a construction site to avoid the sun.

I think the story was from Texas... But now I am not sure...

Apologies for the Necropost... but here's an update, and I have to give Hattrick his props:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/03/22/hogzilla.ap/index.html

"the experts estimated Hogzilla was probably only 7 1/2 to 8 feet (2.25 to 2.4 meters) long, and weighed about 800 pounds (360 kilograms)."

I missed the Nat. Geo. special about Hogzilla. I wonder if by hanging the hog by his back legs, that it's body didn't stretch some. All in all, even at 800 pounds and eight feet, Mr. Piggy was a freakishly large beast.
