Video Card 2 Slots to 1 Slot

Post by Aggressor Prime »

The BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-E with 512MB of GDDR3 is 2 slots. If one would want to change that card to 1 slot, all he would have to do is change the cooling element to a 1 slot cooling element (preferably water cooling) and change the extension bracket (the thing that holds the DVI connectors at the back of the case) from 2 slots to 1 slot. The problem is, where can one find a replacement extension bracket that has the same design as BFG's card if it were 1 slot. Have you seen places online that carried this?

uhhhhhhh.......my GFFx 5600 Ultra burned out. im on a 6600 OC now. i can take off the back plate of my 5600 which is DVI, S-vid and VGA D-sub and send it to you.

simple dremel cutting will make it dual DVI. if you want, i can cut the plate for you and then send it.

measure the DVI slot size, then all you need is a permanent marker to mark the area around the VGA hole and cut it out with a small high speed metal cutting bit. POC

Cutting a decent looking hole in a small strip of metal is quite a bit harder than lopping the ends off some screws, though. Especially with the huge fiberglass cutting discs that i lurb so much ;) (they never break)

did nobody cosider simply cutting the expansion slot bracket of the 6800U in half?

no need to cut holes into anything.

uhhh wrong, i dont use the discs. i use the small router looking bit, designed specifically for cutting light metals at high speed.

But do online stores sell spare extension brackets?
I'm not looking for something man-made. I'm looking for something machine-made, a bracket that was designed to change 2 slots to 1 slot.
