Sup guys, just finishing up my 6th month in the Army and I thought I'd aughta inform you of my endeavors.
Well, in about 12 hours I'm going to get my Airborne wings pinned on my chest. Just finished my 5 qualifying jumps yesterday, and I graduate airborne tomorrow morning.
What an experience... jumping from a big a$$ (come on, the game is rated T for christ's sake!. Get rid of the weenie bad word censor.) C-130 and an even bigger C-17 with about 60 pounds of combat equipment, and a parachute designed to bring you to the ground and not KILL you in the process. All of this from no higher than 1200 feet off the ground. It's exhilliarating as much as it is nerve wracking. The ground comes up at you about as fast as it would if you were jumping off of a 15 foot fence, and to top it off, you're fully loaded. THEN you gotta run 3/4's of a mile off the drop-zone... And the worst part about it was one was at about 10pm with a VERY poorly illuminated drop zone. Drilled the ground about 20 seconds faster than I thought I would. Basically landed feet -> a$$ -> head.
It was simply put the most... insane thing I've ever done. Perfect plane, hurled myself out of it... not once, but 5 times. Ah well, safe landings each time, and I get to go to my airborne unit as an Airborne soldier. Left my legs (and my sanity) on the drop zone... and I feel great.
I'll check in with you guys again once I get to Fort Bragg and get all settled in. Should be heading that way tomorrow. Keep it real guys... I'll be back with some sort of regularity soon. Late-
