Win xp pro and new MoBo

Post by woodchip »

When my Mobo went bad, it was unexpected and I didn't have time to go into msconfig and turn off all the start-up items I would normally do prior to swapping out for a newer mobo. Then again I never swapped out with Win xp (was always win98)as a O.S. Will I have problems by not turning off the start-up items or can XP handle this task?

WHen you boot up, hit F8 and boot up in safe mode first. But I'd advise redoing your system with a new MB.

If the board has the same chipset, then I don't really forsee a problem. You might have to uninstall some devices (if they still show up), or install new device drivers, but thats about it. If XP doesn't load, boot off of your XP CD and repair the install. You'll have to re-apply SP2 and re-download any windows updates, but thats it.

If the mobo is the same as the last mobo, or even the same chipset, just install everything the way it was installed in the last mobo and boot, it should work.

I was hoping to get the exact same mobo as I bought one off ebay. The guy said he sent it out over a week ago. Didn't get any replies from the seller until I took my money back. Now I can't find any mobo that matches my old one. Hmmm...maybe Stress might know. Well off to the DBB market place.
