please help me get d2 to run on xp

I recently found the D2 CD from the definitive collection and installed it.
I haven't played it since I had Win98 and I was aware that there were 'ports' to XP. So could someone tell me what I need to do, where to get which files, etc

It works on XP without any patches anyway
