Removing Wave with Sound B from Wave with Sounds A + B

Post by Jeff250 »

If I have a Wave file with sounds A + B and a Wave file with sound B, is there a method or utility to remove sound B as much as possible from the first Wave file so that sound A can be recovered as much as possible? TIA.

You could probably use a program like CoolEdit to invert the waveform and then add the waveforms together, thereby "subtracting" Waveform B from Waveform A+B. This is how active noise cancellation headphones work, like the kind helicopter pilots wear: there's a microphone that listens to the sound of the rotors, and a circuit that inverts the waveform and feeds it through the headphones to the pilot, canceling out the noises right next to the ear.
