Stacking UPSs

I have 2 old APC 500 units that still work quite well. My question is, is it possible (and safe) to plug one APC into the the other APC then that APC into the wall outlet? Kinda like a daisy chain of APCs.

It'd be the equivilent of daisy-chaining surge supressors or extention cords. As long as you're not maxing out the load of the first, you should be good. If you go through the pass-thru plugs, then you just have to make sure you're not going to pull more than 15 amps. Anymore than that, and you'll pop the breaker in the house.

It would probably be more worth your while to split the load between them, like putting the monitor on one, and the computer on the other.

MD: It depends on what service J has running into his house. J, are you living in one of those new tract houses or an old house? It makes a hell of a difference; my house in New York has 15 Amp service, and was built in the 50's. My house in Maryland was built two years ago and has 250 Amp service.

I'm not sure which type of current I have in my house. Is there a way to check? The electrical panel says the house was inspected in 1986.

Good way to smoke your UPS, seen that come across my bench more than once. They aren't meant to hookup to huge inductive loads.

Daisy-chaining does NOT increase load capacity.

Split them up one on the monitor and one on the 'puter.
