As stars sparkled in the heavens so did the plasma cannon:
"The Air Force, saying it must secure space to protect the nation from attack, is seeking President Bush's approval of a national-security directive that could move the United States closer to fielding offensive and defensive space weapons, according to White House and Air Force officials
"We haven't reached the point of strafing and bombing from space," Pete Teets, who stepped down last month as the acting secretary of the Air Force, told a space warfare symposium last year. "Nonetheless, we are thinking about those possibilities."

meh, i'm surprised you didn't know you WERE doing a lot in this arena.
all this very real work on hypersonic engines, plasma shielding (etcetcetc), it takes just as flick of the wrist to sign the technology over to make the world's greatest superbomber. so powerful it could vapourise a building just with it's WAKE (i'm serious, plasma shielding babeh, harnessed air friction's most impressive trick yet: sheilding you from air itself by enveloping the entire craft within a standing wave/cone of plasma)
amature astronomers spot "undeclared" artificial satelites all the time. they are military, you may find it a little scary to know that not all of them are american.
all i want is a satelite with a camera on it, so i can see the laser wars action pchew! pchew!

I don't like the idea of this. The guns should be kept down here inside nations, not in a "neutral zone" (please excuse the Star Trek pun). Whats next? Millions of flags flying around the Earth to declare space property of a certain country?
It should be like Antarctica, no question.
