Raccoon and me pic

Well I finally got a pic of the raccoon responding to my sweet burbling call (that and a little cat chow). I didn't want any
of you doubting thomas's thinking I was telling a tall tail: oops...tale

As you can see by my indian moccosin clad foot, the dear thing is almost ready to give me a kiss I'm so enchanting

Yeah, raccoons can be nasty fighters. It was curious that while I was outside with her she would never act aggressive in the least towards me. Yet when another raccoon came ambling by the barn, she immediately got all hunched up and started growling at the interloper. Guess she didn't want to share the free meal I was providing.
I'm hoping she will eventually bring her little ones out to my picnic. If so I will try and get more pics.

Heh, this guy I was seeing, his house resides in the woods where there are raccoons. They always come to eat the bird seeds meant for feeding the birds. The first time I saw one was when I was sitting in the living room with him and his family. I looked out the window and I just screamed. There's a raccoon peeking inside and the porch's light made it look as if it's a ghost. lol.

I like racoons!

Of course, coming from New Zealand where the only native mammals are several small species of bats, and a small native rat, it fascinating to think of mammals other than cats and dogs stalking around the place!

Yeah I know. Had to shoot a raccoon a few years back. He was just sitting at the edge of the garage and at first I though he was drowsey from just getting out of hibernation (it was early spring) until I walked towards him and he started baring his teeth at me. Went back to the house and bared a .22 bullet through his head. At the time there were too many kids (my own and the neighbors) that walked by that spot when playing.

Years ago I was in a Vets office

and a guys walks in and sits down with a racoon on his shoulder.

Also seen some very tame squirells. Their problem is their claws hook into your skin like heck.

Racoons are very beautiful, but a big friendly cat is almost the same.

When I was a kid, some neighbors rescued two baby racoons. I'd go over all the time and play with them. Damn they'd bite hard, though...

Have seen all kinds of wildlife at provincial parks up in Canada. We had a chipmunk actually climb on our laps to get peanuts from our hand. At night racoons would come out and come up to people all the time. It was annoying when they'd get into stuff, though.

My great grandfather befriended a wild black squirrel who lived in a tree in his front lawn. It could come down and sit on the porch with him.

Another time, we went fishing at a remote fly-in lodge in northern Ontario. We had a cabin at the top of a steep hill. My brother and sister were racing to the top, and stopped dead in their tracks. Not 20 feet away was a black bear, and her cubs were in the trees behind her. She didn't do anything, luckily. The management tranquilized them and drove them away.

LOL, in fact, I'm going camping in northern Saskatchewan for 12 days starting Thurs. There's a black bear that hangs out at the cabin we'll be staying at.

Hope we don't run into it.

I was up fishing near Flin Flon, Manitoba a couple summers ago, walking with a huge stringer of fresh walleye in my hand. Rounded the corner and there's a black bear on the porch of our cabin. He was about a 400 pounder. Talk about getting caught with your pants down. I hopped up on the porch of another cabin. He eventually ended up on the side of our cabin. kept digging and nuzzling the dirt next to a fallen log. When he finally left, I went over to find out what he was so curious about. Someone had poured bacon grease next to the log. Most of the time, bear problems are actually stupid human problems.
