AVG problems - Repeated restarts

Is there a file that will tell me what program was starting to load when the computer shuts down.

I get an error about AVG7core.sys

Here is what they have to say on their site.

" 0512 Repeated restarts after the program update 7.0.322
Some users reported a problem with repeated restart of the computer on the MS Windows2000 operating system after the program update (Release date: 18.5.2005). The direct problem is not in the AVG but in a concurrency with some other installed driver that uses large amount of memory. In spite of that we are preparing next update that will reduce the memory requirements of the AVG Resident Shield.

To temporarily solve the problem you need to change one parameter in the registry. To do this please use this file. Just run it (double-click) in the Safe mode of the operating system (restart your computer and press F8 key repeatedly during the reboot, then choose the Safe mode option from the menu). After the computer restart it should be OK."

If I disable the programs in my System tray ( I use "Staratup CPL") and allow AVG to load all is well. Is there a way to tell which program is "overloading" things besides trying to add on program at a time?

Spitting in the wind here, but . .

Maybe look into DEP, if your OS has that. It causes repeated shutdowns when its unhappy. One of the recent XP service packs made many mpg previews causes crashes.
Data Execution Prevention

ctrl-alt-del to look at processes and apps

If you have 2000
then you have a lot of logs and tools to track stuff
Dont remember all of it but I think you can expand settings and activate a bunch of admin tools including error logs.

Used to know, but forgot the commands

Thanks for the post.

I discovered by using "StartupCPL" and disabling startup programs that the latest AVG upgrade was conflicting w/ "WallMaster" (changes wallpaper at startup).

I have disabled WallMaster and will wait for the "fix" from AVG so I can use WallMaster again.
