playing d1 online over kali with d2x-w32...

Post by kurupt »

against players running older versions of d1x? i checked out this page but i'm still a bit miffed. assuming this works for me, i can play d1 with it too, and online? that would kick so much ass...

but to me it looks like its talking about playing multiplayer missions in single player mode. anyone know enough about it to clear this up?

D2x isn't compatible with D1x, if that's what you mean. Or at least... I'd be quite surprised if Diedel has done that without explicitly stating it.

Yeah, D1x and D2x can't play against each other. You can play D1 single- and multiplayer missions in D2x, however.

Can be done... it's just too much effort. I guess. :)

It's a LOT easier to implement D1's gameplay in D2X-W32 and force everyone to have D2, let's put it that way. Compatibility with legacy D2 is hard enough as it is. :P

Yeah... if you want it to play against D1 players and not be a handicap/advantage, you basically need redundant data set support. Sounds simple, but the problem is no-one ever planned for it before the late 1990s...

Why would you want to play D1 games with D2?

One game, less hassle. I guess. :)

One feature set, one set of bugs to fix...

I'd rather Diedel take over the D1x project and do to it what he did for D2x.

I will not take over the D1X project.

If someone would tell me the D1 gameplay specifics/difference to D2, I might consider implementing them in D2X-W32 though.

Obviously it was a little ambiguous to write "now you can play D1 with D2X-W32". You can load D1 levels with D2X-W32 and play them, and they will for the most part look like they do in D1. The physics, weapon effects etc. are all D2 though.
