Removing Earthlink

Post by thewolfe »

Removing Earthlink
A friend had Earthlink dialup. Then she got Verizon DSL but keep Earthlink until we got all her e-mail address and messages transferred. She is now using Yahoo.

She un-installed Earthlink (Add & Remove) but get's an Eartlink message when she clicks on the Yahoo shortcut asking her if she wants to connect. When she clicks on cancel the IE comes up with "Page can not be displayed" and says something about working offline.

IE has "Work Offline" checked so she un-checked it but still can't get on.

Where should I look for Eartlink files to remove?

Assuming this is some flavor of windows XP, go into the network connections item in control panel, delete the earthlink dialup connection.

Another option is to go into internet options in IE, go to the connection tab, and remove the dialup connections (or set it to never dial a connection).

If you are running XP you might try the entirely-useless-for-power-users "home or small business network setup wizard" in the network connections folder.

In IE use the Tools pull down menu:

Tools
Internet Options
Connections

Delete the Dial up Connection

Here's the scope.

We did everything that had been suggested but that didn't help the problem because I was "a little" misled. Tried all this over the phone.

When she used Earthlink she was using Outlook with it so...if she wanted to attach a file to Yahoo, she was right-clicking on the file and sending it to the mail program which was Outlook which was calling up Earthlink.

She said that Eartlink was popping up but hadn't given me the other info.

The "can not display page" thing was just resetting her modem/router, DA!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the input. I always seem to use it down the line somewhere.
