Seems cold fusion is now a reality. Don't get your hopes up. We haven't found the perfect clean power source yet, but this is a very interesting piece of equipment. It uses a small crystal and electricity to fuse atoms. Thought it does take far more energy to run than it gives out, it only runs at around 45F.

Just caught an article on Fark from The Economist. It's not yet a reality; someone just developed a cost-efficient way to accelerate nuclei. Hopefully, this will make it possible to send a stream of nuclei at a stationary target and cause fusion, but whether or not this will generate more energy than gets put into it remains to be seen.

Don't forget, "breakeven" is the holygrail in Fusion, and there's no guarantee that ITER, nor the Laser-Fusion project at Lawrence Livermore will EVER breakeven.
This method seems an unlikely candidate to breakeven too.
However, a fantastic discovery, that may have many wicked applications outside of power generation.
