Please pray for my Dad :(

Hey everyone,

Life has not been too great for the past weekend. My Dad has been in the hospital with heart problems. We figured it was a problem with his valve being that he has had that trouble before and he has liquid going into his lungs and isn't getting enough oxygen. Then we found out that it was a vascular problem and the ran a test on him yesterday and gave us some bad news. Apparently, there are too many clogged arteries to give him stints. Apparently it would take 40-50 stints and the doctor told us, that it wouldn't work that way. Apparantly, he has also had two silent heart attacks. They said they are going to run a test on him today and that if the muscles in his heart are still all alive enough that there is one thing they can still do for him. They can try a bypass. Anyway, this is really scary for my Mom and I, and I ask that everyone pray for him or at least keep him in your thoughts.

My dad passed away in Dec. My heart goes out to you and your family and my prayers to your dad.

My grandmother has surprised doctors time and time again by miraculously surviving heart surgeries and even by simply showing up alive to various doctor appointments, although I'd imagine that they're used to it by now, since she has been trouble free for years now. I hope that you and your family find the same situation. I'll certainly pray for your father.

I'll speak on defender's behalf and state that it was a mistake, due to the fact that there was a 'but' included in the sentence which gives the reader a heads up that what is said next differs somewhat from the context of what was said previously.

I will keep him in my thoughts. Make sure you get a second opinion too...The reason the stents won't work is that the blockage isn't localized, meaning the plaque buildup is throughout the entire main artery(s)to the heart. The fluid in the lungs is caused by the faulty valve and is called congestive heart failure.

Don't let that scare you.....Medications, namely Digoxin and Bumex (taken daily) will get rid of the fluid, and help the heart contract deeper.

All is not lost either. A bypass, or more than one, can get sufficient blood flowing to make the heart happy....

What I posted is the extent of my medical knowledge.

A neighbor, who has been like a grandfather to me has congestive heart failure and has had 3 stents installed. He is on a bunch of pills (13)each day, but is pretty agile for his age of 78.

I made a Microsoft Word listing of all his pills, what they are for, and how many to take each day to keep him from getting confused. His wife is pretty frail too and he takes care of her, and I check in with them at least twice a week.

I liked him enough to learn about his heart.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers everyone!!

I just got back a few days ago. Sorry I haven't been able to keep everyone updated on this. I spent over a week in Salt Lake City at the LDS hospital and I must say, they really took good care of him. The doctors did an excellent job. The doctors at the hospital we had him at before Salt Lake City could have handled the opperation but since there were complications they had to send him to SLC.

Anyway, it turned out that they didn't have to do a valve replacement and they ended up giving him 5 bypasses. He was in pain for a few days and has had a nasty soar throught from the tube he had down it.

The family seems to be pulling together to help out too. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters that showed up during this period. I had to stay with my mother in the local housing units. We were the only ones in our housing unit so we pretty much had it to ourselves. I was the only one that doesn't have a family of my own to take care of.

I also got a chance to walk around the LDS temple grounds and even took a tour inside the counsel building. I also of course saw the Mormon Tabernacle.

What was interesting is I read in copy of Wired Magazine that apparently Advent Rising's music is done by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Other than that it was a slow, rough and scary journey for the first few days before and during the opperation.

The best part is being home again with my Dad getting better every day.

I'm not really super-religious. I'm more of a jack-mormon but it was an interesting experience and the LDS hospital did a good job.

Only bad part is one idiot left my Dad sitting up, while eating in the ICU and never came back until another nurse came in for her shift. Everyone was pretty ticked off at the guy that did that. :
