How does 3200 compare to 3000 in overclock? (Venice)

Post by Top Wop »

I've been reading up on the Athlon 64 Venice 3000 and read that it can easily reach 2.7-2.8 Ghz through stock cooling. But I was wondering if the 3200 can go beyond that in overclock given that its stock is already faster than stock 3000. Both having same cores. Thanks!

it comes down to what stock the chips were sampled from.
for example both may have sampled from stock intended for say 3400s and failed to reach the expected stds so they get degraded, some components get locked and then they get marked as 3200 and 3000 but both still have potential to run as a 3400. ok? best bet is to go look at the overclocking forums and hunt down the serial no.s for the best running ones.

People generally use the 3200+ for overclocking. As far as I can tell it's mostly because the 3000+ has a multiplyer of 9, while the 3200+ has a multiplyer of 10. So hitting 2.8GHz on the 3200+ would be easier using 10x280MHz then it would be using 9x311MHz on the 3000+
