One for Quack III fans
You might not know this, but "Quack III" is actually a real thing and not just a mere misspelling. When Q3A first came out, it turned out that ATI drivers for their flagship 8500 card were doing some "illicit" reductions in image quality while running Q3A in order to boost benchmark scores (after all, for the longest time, Q3A was the benchmark game for video cards).

Basically, they were futzing with the texture filtering and MIP-mapping settings. Look at the second link for a very obvious example of how awful the optimisations made Q3A look.
As it happened, fiddling with the quake 3 executable and renaming it to quack 3 (both in filename and internally) caused the optimisations to magically disappear, fuelling considerable anger against ATI for "cheating" in this manner.
