I'd never heard of Andy. I got the link for this story from the Anti Flag website... and I found it to be just horrible. :/

on the other hand, it shows some people power - too bad their efforts were wasted.

As usual, theres more than one side to the story. A quick googling turned up this, which suggests that the 'smear campaign' was not just the work of right wing nut jobs, but there were serious inconsistencies with the story.
