Blue Screen Of Death..

Post by El Ka Bong »

Please someone give me teh quick fix here !

I get a "Fatal Exception" error by my Win 98 PC when I try to run D3 on a newly set up machine.

I have installed, and re-installed after uninstalling D3, patched in sequence from ver. 1.0 to 1.3 to 1.4, tried the Aussie 1.4 patch etc etc.. But I click on the D3 launcher "Play" button, get a black screen for 3 seconds and then teh blue screen of a Windows "Fatal Exception" ... What does that mean ?

Without reformatting my drives I tried to re0-install Win 98 ... no luck, same blue screen of death.

My machine is a Win 98 box with 1.4 GHz Athalon, 256MB RAM, GForce 5200 PCI video card, wireless networked, lots of hard drive space, and everything else works but D3 ... ?!

I am at the point of just going "Format: C and Format D". Then I want to install Win XP onto a scrubbed clean system. Any other advice..?

Did you have D3 detect your video setup? Do you have Direct X 9.0c? Did you update your video drivers?

If all else fails, install XP.

Even though I agree, time to upgrade to XP, there are better ways to word it.

Do yourself a favor and boot off the XP cd to install, and install it fresh, do not attempt to upgrade windows 98.

Also, if I were you I'd download all the updated drivers for your hardware before installing any OS. It'll save you alot of hard work after installing XP. :)

Yes ! Thanks again !... First upgrade all drivers while still Win 98, then Format C: ... then boot off XP disc and install Win XP, then install D3 ! That's going to happen tonight..

You might even want to make yourself a slipstreamed XP SP2 disk, just to save yourself approx half an hour of waiting for SP2 to install.

Don't be an idiot Tyranny. :P I have high speed and I slipstreamed SP2 on my XP disk. Download times have nothing to do with it, the disk space from not having the service pack uninstall and time savings from not having to install SP2 additionally are well worth it.

Hey, if you want to spend half an hour post install installing SP2, and dealing with the uninstall files yourself, go right ahead. :)

So in short, STFU N00b. :D
