Same Action, Opposite Reactions...

Post by SuperSheep »

Don't know why I thought of this but it struck me as kinda funny that...

An electric shock can stop your heart, but the same shock can start it up again.

Can you guys think of some others? Has to be same action with opposite reactions.

I guess I see it different. Your heart stops beating the first time, and starts beating the second time, stops beating the third time, etc.,..

Merriam Webster - Action
5 a : a thing done : DEED b : the accomplishment of a thing usually over a period of time, in stages, or with the possibility of repetition c plural : BEHAVIOR, CONDUCT <unscrupulous actions> d : INITIATIVE, ENTERPRISE <a man of action>
Merriam Webster - Reaction
3 : bodily response to or activity aroused by a stimulus: a : an action induced by vital resistance to another action; especially : the response of tissues to a foreign substance (as an antigen or infective agent) b : depression or exhaustion due to excessive exertion or stimulation c : heightened activity and overaction succeeding depression or shock d : a mental or emotional disorder forming an individual's response to his or her life situation
But I digress... :D

Wind can create a flame from burning embers, the same wind can reduce that flame to burning embers.

+ slapping someone is supposed to snap them outof hysterics, a prolonged outof control emotional outburst.
- slap someone who is fine, and you may likely trigger such an outburst.

the heart thing has never struck me as strange though.
i've always thought of heartbeats and other body-timed mechanisms as frequency waves. like waves in water.

Given stillness, you can make waves. Then you can also use waves to cancel other waves to re-introduce stillness again.

The first electric shock resets the heart's pacemaker, the second shock kicks it back into gear.

Being an arrogant prick can attract a woman. Being an arrogant prick can get you dumped.

Am I doing this right?

TheCope and Roid...perfect examples.

It's not so much that I don't understand the whole electric shock thing, moreso that one can continue doing it(obviously not forever).

Goob...I like your example, but wouldn't that be two actions, one reaction? Hot water on foot(action), and cold water on same foot(action) both relieve pain in foot(reaction).
