I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop M 35 X series and there are numerous programs running in the System Tray. What can I disable and still having all the standard functions. Here is my list.

Wireless network connection
Local area connection
Toshiba touch and launch
local area connection network cable is unplugged. Wireless network connection
Extreme graphics 2 four mobile
Touch pad on
Easy button
CD/DVD drive acoustic silencer
Touch pad
Toshiba resuming utility

most of those i believe can be safely turned off as they are either just status indicators or shortcuts. as most of these are representing whats already running in task manager or are a shortcut they will only be using a few kb of mem each. i only have the pc protection and networking tools on in mine.
if you some better performance tweaks try here, http://www.theeldergeek.com/index.htm
and this tool is useful http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
