Lobber,
A wee thing called life captured me. But email me at koolbear@g-nospam-mail.com and I'll get it posted if you are still interested. I spent a lot of time developing Boy/Cub Scout sites here's a few http://www.scoutclub.net http://www.scoutsworld.net
http://www.scoutdata.net and http://www.tatankadistrict.org plus others
Slowguy you are welcome!
Hi Sarge! (Waves Back)

Jeff250 lol
mob-messenger, you are welcome and yes I did
MD-2389 good point maybe I should start hosting it myself. I guess I am lucking the site has been online since late '96 and I can't recall being hacked before, guess I was just lucky
Sargent Thorne yes I do have an upload feature. I'll look into it. My hosting service was confident that it wasn't through thier contraol panel.
TigerRaptorFX my thoughts exactly, I mean a game site!
Plebeian lol good to see you are still here!

btw, you should really thank the folks on kali. Thats how I found out about it, and then I told Jim.
Oh, if you do decide to host it yourself, I can put you in touch with a good friend of mine that can test your security. (He does this for a living) Just bug me on ICQ or AIM.

No, its not. Only the source code has been released, and thats only so folks can make improvements on the game. Even then, they cannot sell them at any price for any commercial gain.Isaac wrote:ugh! omfg... 4 posts in a row. what are we going to do... ?
look! free descent 2! ooooOOOOooo
It's public domain, no?
I suggest you have a read here and here. Until such time that it is officially released for public domain (which won't happen anytime soon), it is still commercial software and distributing it for free would be quite illegal. If you were talking about the ORIGINAL Descent, which WAS released for free by Interplay through PC Gamer, then I would agree with you. However, Descent 2 was NOT released for free by Interplay or Parallax, thus anyone hosting it for free is in violation of current software piracy laws as are you for linking to a site hosting such software. You could also get the host of this very board into trouble just by making that post, so I suggest you edit it out.
Oh by the way, YOU are the one being "pwned" here. Newbie.

There's nothing "legal" at all about that download. And "abandonware," although a concept that most gamers favor, doesn't formally exist at all; unless a game is released as public domain by its publisher, it's still illegal to distribute copies of it or post it for download. It doesn't matter how many places it's available online; the game's EULA forbids any copying except for personal backup. Any pages that do have commercial games available for download aren't still around because they're not breaking the law; they're still around because the games' publishers haven't noticed them at all or no longer exist to notice them. That's it. End of story. And, I might add, insulting established members of this forum doesn't win you any favor points.
