Best memory manufacturer

Post by Ned »

I need to buy some SD cards for a video project and I'm debating which company to buy from.

What company do you like and WHY specifically.

Contenders:
PNY
Kingston
Kingmax
Lexar
Crucial
SanDisk
Ridata
Corsair
etc.

Some people here seem to love corsair, so I was considering this one:

Thanks for your help :)

OH! One more: What's the deal with some makers stating R/W speed and others completely ignoring any mention of it?

I have a 1GB SanDisk for my MP3 player and its nice. Of course you can't go wrong with Crucial either. Corsiar is a good company. (1GB of it is powering my Athlon64 system)

Not too sure of the whole R/W rate thing. I don't think its a problem unless the device you are using the card in is faster than the card though. Most don't even list though.

For those of you not reading posts entirely, he's talking about FLASH memory, not RAM. :P You know, the ★■◆● they use in digital cameras and certain portable mp3 players.

That being said, I've used both Lexar and Fujifilm media and never had any problems. Both are quite reliable.

I have a SanDisk MP3 player, which I'm assuming uses the same type of memory as their SD cards, and I have no complaints with it.

Doh :)

I'm a bit wary about SanDisk since I got that 512MB Cruzer Micro pen drive that got corrupted on a regular basis (and thus became useless). That thing was also exceptionally slow writing stuff (slower than a USB 1.1 device even it's 2.0.) As far CF/SD/MS cards go I use mostly SanDisk or Lexar w/o problems so far.

Thanks for the ideas

I am surprised at the huge speed differences

Sam's was selling some SD cards with 150kB/sec transfer rate

THe corsair I mentioned is like 6 MB/sec

Apparently that affects the lag between photos, in videos modes it may or may not cause a freeze
