how do you select ships at the beginning of a level?

It involves Dallas. You must select 'enable the given ship, so it can be chosen in single player', which should be under mission under actions in Dallas. You'll either need a setup level or have the other ships selectable after the level is completed for the first time.

..Or, you could try checking the flag 'allow by default' for the Phoenix and Magnum in gamtool. I've never tried it, but it might be worth a shot. It would eliminate the need for a setup level, and simplify the entire process.

good luck.

Also, I think the level needs to have a briefing.
