There is stupid and there is, if you dig deep down. Stupid.whuppinboy wrote:not so much sad as it is stupid. sleeping in the same room as a generator????? c'mon!
A lack of education and a need for warmth contributed to those deaths. Don't be so smug sunshine. Bad call, bad call.
A guy who kills himself playing russian roulette has the chance to be nominated for a Darwin award. Not these guys.

sorry Flabby, gonna disagree w/ya on this one. ANYONE, no matter how poorly educated should know that sleeping in the same room as a gas powered generator is insane. if you're cold, huddle up with each other, not the generator. and the people they were staying with should have known better as well. they didn't even realize they were dead for almost a day?????? what is that about?

Not everyone in Florida is utterly clueless and stupid... Florida just gets a (partially deserved) bad reputation. The thing is, all the idiots are imported from other States. Maybe we should just euthanize 'em before they pollute my home.
#2 Widespread announcements were made in the various media during the hurricane season last year, at the beginning of hurricane season THIS year due to the deaths LAST year, and also during the days leading up to Katrina's landfall.
#3 It is common knowledge that running a gasoline engine in your enclosed garage will KILL YOU. Whether it be an automobile or a generator...
#4 THEREFORE, It was stupidity, not a lack of education. They removed themselves from the gene pool due to a lack of ability to think. Not a lack of education.
#5 The people who let these poor idiots sleep in the garage should be indicted for MANSLAUGHTER. Their negligent idiocy should not pass unpunished.
#6 Given the fact that blatant stupidity, a lack of common sense a failure to survive the consequences of same are the key issues here, a Darwin Award Candidacy is fairly appropriate. The only thing missing is an arrogant, utterly mistaken expectation of survival despite taking part in blatantly contra-survival behaviors. Instead, these people belong in the "clueless" group.

Honestly, why is this news. This sort of thing makes me so angry.
Write about the turbulent political climates surrounding the globe? The incoming hurricane? Some technological developement? ANYTHING relevant to the reader?
No, we'll write about the accidental death of two people, and how it made other people very sad. Knowing this happened helped me out a lot.

I'd hardly qualify them for a Darwin.
It might have been dumb, but not Darwinian IMO.

Darwin Awards Rules
Apparently Carbon Monoxide poisoning doesn't count...
HOWEVER, in light of the massive public information campaign both during and following last year's Hurricane Season, as well as the continuing warnings with the onset of this year's Hurricane Season and the increasing frequency of warnings as Katrina approached...
These people deserve an Honorable mention, for being THAT clueless.
