Anyone play Freespace2 any more?

Post by Xamindar »

I'm trying to complete this level in a nebula where we have to bomb an enemy command ship but it always ends up with all my fellow fighters getting killed and just me left to bomb it. I got it down to 12% before I was finally killed. What is the deal with my stupid wingmen getting killed? It pisses me off they are so stupid!! I can't complete the mission without their help.

Is there anything I can do?

Also, is there a place I can find people to play multiplayer games?

Is this the mission where you have to take out the Ravana? It's been a while since I played it, but I think the strategy that worked best for me was to target flak/anti-air turrets during my bombing runs so that I would have an area where I wasn't in danger. Your wingmen aren't much use in this mission; the best thing to do, I think, would be to order them to engage the enemy and hope that they can do at least some damage. If you start getting in trouble from enemy fighters, stick close to whatever allied ship is in the area. As for multiplayer, Hard Light Productions is the best place to look; it's pretty much the center of the FS2 community. Not many people play multiplayer there, but they'd be able to direct you to groups of people who do. Also, if you're interested, HLP is the home of the FS2 Source Code Project, which I'd highly recommend. :)

No, its not a Descent-type game. Think of it as a space-sim done right. There is no 6DOF, atleast not like in Descent. You CAN slide, but unless you were sitting still or making a sharp turn you wouldn't notice.

That being said, for those that wish to play multiplayer....click me

As for taking down the Ravana, your main focus should be taking down the beam cannons. Enemy fighters are easy to dodge. When you get one on your six, hit the afterburner and pull back on your joystick until you come around on their tail. Then pound the snot out of them. :) Then order a wing of fighers (NOT YOUR WING) to cover you while you attack. Make sure you dual up your bombs (SHIFT + . if memory serves) and skim the surface until you're at a point where you're not being targetted by the ship's turrets. Then match speeds with the ship and when your bombs lock on, thumb the afterburner and fire. Rinse and repeat.

Slaying Ravana was the mission name IIRC, I normally just loaded up with a lot of bombs in my bomber and used some glitch in the engine that let you dumbfire the bombs, empty all three banks in a second, since the bombs mostly wash over your shields I always did it very close in so the bombs couldn't be shot down. Fire all 6 bombs that you could in one run, then dodge around or harass some enemy fighter for 30 seconds for the reload, rinse, rearm, repeat.
