:-/ Those are not Katrina those are supercells, supercells cant form in hurricanes, and that first pic I've seen a lot well before Katrina. But anyways, supercells rule and those pics are awesome. :) If you are a geeky storm chaser like me you call those "motherships" because they are PIMP supercells, and well look like a ship almost. If you see one of those headed for your house take shelter, because if there is not a tornado in there, there will have been or will be one. And even if you dont get a tornado, you'll get baseball sized hail. :)

storm chasing r fun!!! yea those are some awesome pics. i haven't seen any supercells that good yet, but one of these days :P

last year we were chasing a cell(we didn't know if it had a toranado down or not) but it was really hilly with a bunch of trees and we couldn't see much. we seen the part that would put the tornado down (we call it the same thing ass bad@sscow, motherships :P) but all the sudden it got REALLY ASS windy so we got in back the car and got the hell outa there.

we went back to look for damage, and it turned out there was an F2-3 tornado about 1.5 miles away from where we were. o_O took the roof off a gas station, bunch of trees down n stuff.

pretty big mistake to try to get close to supercells in hilly/treey areas cuz you can't see shjt. that's what's great about the great plains. you can see forever :P

According to the University of Illinois meteorology guide website, Super Cells are thunderstorms with a deep rotating updraft. Where have you been hiding, Bubba? That term has been around forever.

Yea dont chase if you cant see whats going on, worst case scenario, you're being chased by a tornado and you cant see it until its on top of you. :) And oh yea, those pics were taking by a guy named Mike H. I believe. I looked it up on stormtrack.org, where someone noted that his pics were being passed off as Katrina pics. Katrina rain bands will look boring if you can even see them from the surface.

I actually drove through storm cells just like those while fleeing north to Memphis. You could actually see the rain coming down at an angle from 10 miles away. Probably hit three or four rain bands like that before we outran it.

Nasty stuff. Cool pictures.
