They actually aren't spiders at all, they're solpugids. Both Spiders and these guys are members of The Arachnids though.

Pretty awesome video. I'm glad we don't have them here in NZ.

Also known as the Sun Scorpion.

Predominently in parts of Africa, as well as Iraq.

Further research reveals that this creature belongs to the order Solifugae. Just like Spiders and Scorpions are an order, this creature is neither spider nor scorpion, but a solifuge.

Almost 120 species have been located in parts of North America north of Mexico, predominently in Arizona, as well as parts of Florida and the Great Basin.

Solifuges have large mandibles, but do not have poison sacs. Different families feed with different patterns. I've read that most of them are nocturnal, and yet another source wrote that most of their activity is during the afternoon. Some of them feed mostly via touch, while a few others use eyesight.

So technically, it's not a spider. It's its own animal.
