I never went to prison, I spent a fair bit of time in a county jail for two felonies (possession with intent to distrubute and trafficing across county lines as a felon), and yes, being a double felon prevents me from owning firearms, but I'm in Montana. That doesn't legally mean anything but I'm not concerned because the local authorities don't give a ★■◆●.will_kill wrote:unfortunatly, I can't own firearms now(long story) but I sure played with 'em alot when I was a young man and I was always taught to shoot first and ask for second helpings..........
which reminds me...SilverFJ did you not mention on these boards something about you going to prison for some length of time? if in fact you did...that means your prolly in jeopardy of going back, being in possession of all those guns...(well, unless your crimes were non-violent mis-demeanors or the guns are phony or you didnt go to prison at all ).
Why own firearms

Barry,
If you're worried about people coming in the windows, buy glass that is dade county coded and you'll have a 1/4 thick piece of laminate that a 2x4 fired out of a cannon will not break. I'd say 3% of people buy guns for protection, because you can simply make your house stronger. It's easier, and far less dangerous, what's to say you don't get a misfire and the robber caps you anyways?
Haven't you guys ever walked up to the wrong house drunk? You didn't realize it, now what if this house did not have a locked front door, you walk in, someone hears you, and shoots before you have any idea what's going on. Unlikely? I don't know, stupid, sure don't walk in the wrong house. But stranger things have happened under the influence of fermented water.
One other question Barry, how in the world do you keep those guns locked up? I'm sure your kids are really, really responsible and woudl never do anything, but you were a kid once, and you know exactly what you thought when your parents left. Game time biatch!!

Okay, I'll play, Z.. but, let's keep it civil, please. I'm tired of these firearm topics turning into heated discussions and nobody goes away with anything other than contempt.
Game on...
It's not that simple to make your house stronger and it's certainly not cheap. Any idea what 1/4 lam-projectile resistent glass costs? I have 21 windows in one of my houses and more than that in the other,it would cost me a small fortune. It's really not cost effective in relation to what a firearm costs. Doors are not very difficult to break down and I have double doors entering my house which makes the set-up even more weak.
As far as mis-firing.. anything could happen, but solid and constant training teaches you how to clear mis-fires and FTF's faster than most people can draw a weapon. Is it wiser to take the chance of a mis-fire/squib or run the risk of no pretection at all?
I shoot if I cannot retreat and I feel my life or the life of my family member is in danger. Otherwise, they can have my T.V.. it's not worth spending the next 10 years defending a civil case. There wouldn't be a criminal trial where I live.. it's the civil trial I'd be worried about.

As for the kids question- I trust my children! They have been shooting/cleaning, training and reloading since they could hold the firearms. See, I've taken the forbidden fruit factor out of firearms, they just don't care. My father kept a rifle and two pistols in his closet the whole time I was growing up, I never touched them..ever. Probably because I had a respect for my father's wishes and when he told me not to do something, generally, I didn't do it. I didn't really grow up shooting, I think I shot my first firearm at the age of 18-19. My father told me how dangerous firearms were and not to touch them and I didn't.. it's that simple. Why? because if my father told you to do something you did it..
I will admit that other people's children are different now days because there are no consquences to their action.. their parents tell them no, they do it and their parents tell them no again...They do not give them consequences. While my children have done things in the past that I ask them not to(of course) they know the severity of the consequences if they touch a firearm without permission. Most children learn by example rather than instruction, or a combo of both. I have set a very, very solid example regarding firearms with my children. However, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that if someone came in to hurt my wife, son or daughter when I wasn't home..they would defend themselves with absolute deadly force if necessary. They have been trained well in safe handling and in defense and have a great respect for firearms and what they are capable of.

I do not drink so the chance of something like that happening is very unlikely. AFAIK, I don't have any drunk neighbors, nor do I live anywhere near a bar.. again, the chance is slim. If it were commonplace to have drunks stumble into my house it would be a legit concern. Besides, a person isn't going to just come stumbling into my house drunk or otherwise. If they're there, they're there for another reason. The next logical question is, at what point do I shoot?Haven't you guys ever walked up to the wrong house drunk? You didn't realize it, now what if this house did not have a locked front door, you walk in, someone hears you, and shoots before you have any idea what's going on. Unlikely? Woody,
The one with my pistols is wedged into a tight closet and unless you took down two inside walls,it's not coming out..I some precious metals in that one as well which adds a great deal of weight. The safe with my Rifles is bolted down because it's in the open. The safe with my ammo weighs 868lbs dry and has close to 70k rounds, you can't even rock the thing. I'm sure it's well over a ton. If they can get it out..they deserve it.
The bad part is that we're moving soon, I have to move all of this stuff and I'm not looking forward to it. The good news is, the builder has agreed to build around my safes wherever I want to put them.

Yep, it has. The USA is not a Constitutional Republic today, and virtually no one owns their property in allodial title (not even their own bodies), hence why people have no rights. The only rights we have are the ones they let us have, meaning we only have privileges.Behemoth wrote:much has changed since then?

*cough...fair enough barry.
i dig the even keel responses. makes it easier yes? i do know how much those windows cost, i worked for a residential construction supply company for a couple years and we dealt with those products. it is expensive, but i can imagine how much all those weapons cost you.
don't you think the parents of eric harris and dylan klebold trusted them? i'm sure your kids aren't like them, but how do we all know? i doubt those parents would LET their kids have guns if they knew what they were thinking. oh well, i guess it's a moot point, i wouldnt' mind obtaining an old 1700s model cannon. that would be sweet.

I have a small fortune tied up in my weapons, no doubt. But, I can't see myself getting the same enjoyment out of windows.i do know how much those windows cost, i worked for a residential construction supply company for a couple years and we dealt with those products. it is expensive, but i can imagine how much all those weapons cost you.
The parents weren't involved with their children at all and they were left to their own devices. Without parental direction and emotional support any child can easily turn into a a Harris/Klebold. It's really sad, but parents now days seem more interested in keeping up with the jones rather than spending time molding the only thing in this world that actually matters, their children.don't you think the parents of eric harris and dylan klebold trusted them?
Well, we don't know how the neighbor kid is or what's going through their minds, but frankly, I'm not concerned with the neighbor kids.. I'm concerned with my children. If parents took care of their children we wouldn't have children like Harris/Klebold. I would love to save the world, but I'm only one man. I can only focus my attention on my children and HOPE that other parents do the same.i'm sure your kids aren't like them, but how do we all know?
i doubt those parents would LET their kids have guns if they knew what they were thinking.
I think it's safe to say that the parents wouldn't have left weapons laying around the house if they knew what their children were thinking. That's really the problem.. they had no idea what their children were thinking. They obviously didn't know their children..
I think it's a good point and you nailed it right on the head. Why didn't know their children?oh well, i guess it's a moot point,
I know a fella who builds replicas and fires them off from time to time. It's amazing how much power those things have. Granted, they're scaled down versions..but still pretty neat.i wouldnt' mind obtaining an old 1700s model cannon. that would be sweet.
good luck with the move, I've heard the commercial movers don't like moving that sort of stuffFusion pimp wrote:Woody,

I'm not quite sure what you're impressed with, but thanks. If you mean quantity, you've seen nothing yet. If you mean quality, I don't buy trash. What's the point of spending 400.00 on a piece of junk that has nothing but problems? Buy quality and you'll pass them down to your (adult) grandchildren.
I have no idea what you reference to "Burt" means..Hopefully it's a good thing. hehe
