VATICAN CITY (AP) -- A cardinal has broken his vow of secrecy and released his diary describing the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI, revealing in an exceedingly rare account that a cardinal from Argentina was the main challenger and almost blocked Benedict's election....Punishment for violating the vow is excommunication.
I was raised Catholic, and I found this to be both amusing and disappointing. How many years do you think we have before it becomes a reality TV show? Sad

All this says is that it wasn't a landslide like everyone thought it was.

Who care's who the anti-christ is going to be anyway? (oops! offended someone! :P)

hmm, wasn't expecting that direction. I probably wont be able to explain where I am coming from on this. I couldn't care less whatâ??s in the diary, it's disheartening that it was written.

As do I. Something like that isn't meant to be broadcast all over CNN. If the cardinal who leaked it was actually doing so just out of some sort of Italian national pride, that's pretty sad.

Compared with the scandals within the Catholic church throughout it's history, this latest snippet of news is akin to a fart in a hurricane. Shame that a sacred vow was broken, yes; but hey no-one was poisoned, racked or molested.

Yeah, your right. But with most of the modern ones I could see the reasoning behind them, however so slimey. The church covered things up to protect its image. Bad move? yeah, but comprehendable.

However, in a time where the Catholic church is doing everything it can to promote the importance of some vows, like marriage (my cousin just got married, it was rediculous what the Church there made them go through), it is frutraiting to see a such a blatent '★■◆● the vows, ★■◆● honesty' comming from almost as high up as it can come. And for what agenda? Italian pride? That sounds rediculous but that is the best I can come up with as well.

Your right, in the big picture its a spit in the ocean. But on some micro-level it cuts pretty deep.

Rape small children, get relocated.

Publish a diary, get excommunicated.

Someone remind me why people respect this institution.

hey; didn't someone claim that if the leaders of a group is silent about what some of it's members are doing, it means they support what those people are doing?
