True 90%, but of the two movies I think that have made par with their books, the Shining with Jack Nicolson is one, the other is To Kill a Mockingbird.

Lord of the Rings?

Incidentally, who here has read The Stand by King? I think that's my favorite King book.

Never read the books, couldn't compare. The movies were done very well, but not my cup of tea.

The "Trashcan man" from The Stand is one of my favoutite ficticious characters, certainly in the top ten. I, by a narrow margin would have to say "It" was the book i enjoyed the most. The gunslinger series however knocked 'me' (Mobius?) socks off.

As to the whole "movie 'v' book" thang? Off hand i can think of a couple of films that lived up to the book-i'm assuming here that y'all agree with me why i think the written word is preferable- but only one surpasses my expectations. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, To Kill a Mockingbird (as Goobs said) and Olivier's Hamlet. I include the latter, not just because it's Olivier, but i reckon Shakespere cannot be read, it has to be seen.

The film that blew a great book away; for me anyway, was 2001: A Space odyssey....there's probably more, but that's all i can think of for the mo'.

Shanaa Tova....Happy new year. ;)

Hehe.

I'm going to vote for "It" being the best book of all time.

Not all movies are bastardizations of the book. The Shawshank Redemption? The Green Mile? Man, we should get the guys that wrote those together, it'd be awesome!!

Yep, those guys are good, but from what i read they can't stand the sight of each other, and they'd never associate with anyone who wrote somthing as commercial as "It".
