phoenix, good ol' jack would argue that "thief" is training you to be a cold hearted thief.
we all know what the thief games do, he doesn't listen to logic dude. it doesn't matter if video games actually promote you to do something or not do something, if you CAN do something in the video game the video game is evil.
like, he even says on his website that "Grand theft auto is a video game in which you have sex with a prostitute and then kill her." There is NO obligation in GTA to do that WHATSOEVER. You can go through the whole game without even SEEING a prostitute if you choose to do so, and he plays it off like the game goes: "MISSION 9: KILL LACEY LOOSELIPS AND GET HER CASH!"

You know, this has to be one of the greatest coincidences I've ever seen...Here we have a personality who's almost universally despised by the entire gaming community, and out of all the forums on all the sites out there, we happen to have a relative of his as one ouf our members. It really is a small world, isn't it? will_kill, I mean absolutely no offense to you personally, but I still stand by what I said in my initial post. Based on the attitude he's shown the world at large, I have to say that I truly think that Jack Thompson is, at the very least, completely misguided and wrong, and, at the worst, mentally troubled.

Which is essentially the point of this entire post. Jack Thompson does not see logic.
Argueably you could say the same thing about the Splinter Cell franchise. You might have better luck there since it is based on real-life threats and the character is usually doing good. However, you can go through a mission killing anyone you want if you so choose. Your efficiency rating will usually suck if you do so however and killing civilians is usually forbidden by mission guidelines in many cases but I still have not seen a reward for knocking out an apponent as apposed to killing them. In some cases in this game, you can have the option to save a character's life or sometimes you will have to in order to complete the mission. But most of the time in the game you can select to slit a characters throught with your knife, knock them out, to gass time or sticky shock them, use rubber bullets, use a shotgun or grenade or to snipe them from a distance or use a character as a body sheild and interagate them. Basically as long as you are quite and stay in the shadows you determine if they live or die. But the cool thing about this game is that it seems to encourage you to try and do the right thing. It is more fun somehow and more of a challenge to knock apponents out although I usually end up killing them by the end of the game. However, you will notice that the game is promoted mostly by the more violent acts in the game. You will also find that in the SC community that most people prefer to put the game on expert and knock every AI apponent out as apposed to killing them. However, I'll bet Jack Thompson would see this as teaching kids to be trained killer.
Also look at KOTOR. Awsome game, the player can choose to be a jedi and turn evil to good, save lives, help other characters ecs. But you can be a Sith and kill anyone you like to an extent, and run around conquering the Galaxy. However, most seem to feel inclined somehow to play as a jedi.
The point is, that Jack Thompson is looking for something bad. If he goes after a game like the Sim's, he really doesn't think or act with much logic. He acts with ignorace and arrogance.

Sounds like another lawyer trying to eek out a name for himself to further his agenda. This is how Ralph Nader got his start (he authored "Unsafe at Any Speed", a defamation of the Chevrolet Corvair)To be fair, though, you can't expect a bunch of gamers to understand the satire if they think that Jonathon Swift, the author of 'A Modest Proposal,' is the name of a new Nike running shoe...
Why is this guys antics making this:

Yeah PA is kicking his ass... after a mod group made his "game" he refused to donate teh money... so PA donated $10,000 in his name. He looks like such an asshat right now.
Anyone who Tycho and Gabe have a public fued with might as well head for the bomb shelter. Apparently PA fans have started complaining to the florida bar association tha Jack Thompson should have his law liscence revoked.
