Pavement Crew; NOW with pics
I have joined the august club known as the "Pavement Crew. Put the bike down hard doing about 50 mph. I'm O.K. so don't be tuning out. At the end of a great cider run today, I was leading a newby biker back to Chelsea so he could find his way home when three wild turkeys ran out in front of me.. Didn't have time to think and I hit the breaks. Lost control (doing 45-50 mph) and down I go. Thank god for helmets and heavy leather, crash bars and good boots. I can remember sliding down the road and seeing my bike rolling over at least once. Can't remember if I was in front of the bike or not. Always wondered what it would be like. There were some bicyclist riding toward me and I am thankful the bike didn't plough into them.
The newby was tailing me and I'm greatful he was able to avoid the skirmish. Anyway the bike is a mess but I was able to ride it home as I don't live far from where it happened. So right now I am waiting for a state trooper to show up so I can get a police report for the insurance company. As to the turkeys...they fled the scene and I doubt I will be able to get a statement from them.
I'd make a adult beverage right now but I wouldn't want the trooper to get the wrong idea.
Oh, all my injurys seem to be a ding on my hip and pulled muscles in my upper body.

glad to hear your ok bro....about 7 yrs ago a retired school teacher pulled out in front of me while I was doin' 50 mph...needless to say I required reconstructive surgery as well as a transfusion due to a torn femoral artery (it was actually torn by the broken peice of pelvic bone as it ripped thru the skin).
p.s. remember...always try to just lay it down and slide with it

I rode through a lamb at 260 kmh in 1989, on a Suzuki GSXR750RJ Hypersport. Thought I was going to die, but it turns out a 17" wheel at 265 kmh also doubles as a fairly handy, if somewhat blunt knife! Never even fell off the bike. Two parts of dead sheep on each side of the road testatment to how strong and stable the bike was.

On another note, Mobi actually did something cool. I would love to see something like that on tape.
Hitting a sheep at 163 mph? I have to call BS on this.Mobius wrote:I rode through a lamb at 260 kmh in 1989, on a Suzuki GSXR750RJ Hypersport. Yea, Woodchip, but it wants you to login. Most people don't like that. If my link didn't work you're probably not using IE :p

Except for the gas tank, that damage looks pretty minor. It's a tribute to how tough that thing is built! If I'd dropped a ricer-bike in the same way it'd be much worse off.
There's no way they'd write it off - surely?
Looks like a few hundred bucks worth of parts, a grand at most, and maybe $200 to have the tank repaired and painted?

Actually Moby, I'm going to try and get the painted parts just primed. I got some ideas for a paint job that I may want to try out. And I'm surprised too how little damage was done. I was really surprised the beast started right up after I got it verticle. I would of thought the plugs would of been fouled and in need of a good cleaning.
