Norton AV Subscription

Post by Arch »

I know there was a thread about this a while back, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a way to get Norton updates to install even if you are past your subscription? Thanks fellas....

IIRC, you can just run your clock back a couple of months and it'll still work. However, I don't know if re-installing with the clock still set like that will restore your update ability. Be sure to nuke any and all Symantec entries from your registry after uninstalling it through. You will have to redownload all the updates afterwards.

yup, they still offer them on the website.

btw, I found out through my father that theres a workaround...but it involves nuking NAV. I'll post instructions later tonight as its thundering a whole lot outside right now, and I don't want what happened to Warlock to happen to me. ;)

edit: Well, looks like the storm passed over before I could get around to shutting down, so here ya go:

1. Uninstall NAV, LiveReg, and delete the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\LiveReg" directory
2. Nuke any registry entires generated by NAV or Symantec entries related to NAV.
3. Reboot and re-install NAV.
4. Run LiveUpdate and let it download all the updates.

Thats it.

If you just delete NAV (do a file search to make sure everytning is gone) and re-install it, it gives you a whole new year.

Thats only if you do it before your subscription runs out.

one has to be impressed with a AV app that doesn't need a reboot after install.

Will this run in conjunction with NAV or is it best to remove NAV?

Any Anti Virus software that needs a subscription is not even worth toilet paper.

woody, I'd uninstall NAV. just get rid of it completely.
