that green is the complimentary color of that pink and since your eye will retain the opposite color of that which is reflected the illusion occurs
simple color wheel trick
ie: stare at a bight light for 1-3 seconds close you eyes or look away for a second. The exact opposite image will majically appear on the inside of your eyelids or burned into you vision and everything else dissapears.
yellow turns purple
red turns green
blue turns orange
black turns white
or visa versa
this is basic color using complimentary colors when painting is how you achive accurate muddled colors without the use of black

I was able to make all the pink dots disappear in a few revolutions, which was only 10 seconds or so.
But the dots reappear the moment my eyes jogged a tiny bit, and a slight displacement of vision occurs when the light hits a different set of cones in my retina.
Still amazing how the brain interprets what it sees. This is proof that you don't see what your eyes see, you see what your brain translates coming from your eyes.

Not sure what level.
I can see the different colored dots, I just don't know what color they are. It's easier for me to identify it if I can stare at a color -- as opposed to briefly flashing dots.
I can usually manage to confuse red and green. In sarge's picture, if there were no greens, I probably wouldn't be able to tell if the reds were red or green.
